Getting into the university isn't getting into the program.
This stream has two traps. The first is that admission averages have climbed well past what most families expect. The second is structural: at some schools, an offer from the university does not mean a place in computer science — that's a second gate, after first year.

Contests actually count here
Waterloo considers results from contests like the Euclid and the CCC in math and computer science admission. Few streams offer a lever this concrete — and it takes a year of preparation to pull, not a weekend.
Admission after first year
At Toronto, computer science is a program of study entered after first year, with its own requirements to meet. Students who assume the offer letter settles the question tend to find out late.
Something built beats something claimed
"Interested in coding" is invisible on an application form. Something built, finished, and explainable in two sentences is not.
